Uganda is set to host the president of the United Nations  World Tourism Organisation(UNWTO) Mr. Taleb Rifai. The Organization  is the United Nations agency responsible

for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. Its membership includes 155 countries, 7 territories and over 400 Affiliate Members representing the private sector, educational institutions, tourism associations and local tourism authorities.

As the leading international organization in the field of tourism, UNWTO promotes tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability and offers leadership and support to the sector in advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide.

UNWTO generates market knowledge, promotes competitive and sustainable tourism policies and instruments, fosters tourism education and training, and works to make tourism an effective tool for development through technical assistance projects in over 100 countries around the world.

According to the Uganda minister for Tourism,Wildlife and Antiquities(MTWA) Mrs Maria Mutagamba,the visit by the president will help the players to interact with the international delegation and in the due course will enbale our tour operators to learn more skills aimed at progressing their businesses.

She said at Buyende during a function to launch Busoga Tourism Initiative’s Kagulu Hill Climbing Challenge on May 11,that  there are also plans to start teaching Chinese language  which will equip our tour operators and guides with good communication skills with the view of tapping the Eastern Asian countrieswhich is the biggest market for Uganda tourism industry.The ministry also plans to market Uganda attractions in Japan very soon.
