Officials from the Agency Francaise de Developpement (AFD)" Headquarters in Paris in mid July ,2013 made field trips to Lake Mburo and Bwindi National Parks to explore the possible areas for support and cooperation with Uganda Wildlife Authority(UWA).
The officials including Guerard Sabrina the country representative AFD in Uganda, Marie and Yves were accompanied to the protected areas by UWA's Partnership coordinator Mr. Samuel Besigye during which they enjoyed a game drive in Lake Mburo National Park and tracked the much sought after Mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
The purpose of the trip was for the French Embassy staff to familiarize with ideas in the project proposal which UWA has submitted in respect of support for conservation and tourism. The project title is Tourism Development supporting Biodiversity Conservation in Uganda. Sabrina, Marie and Yves were very happy about UWA staffs' very high level of professionalism and commitment. The guests said that they gained a very deep understanding of the challenges faced by the two Conservation Areas.
AFD provides funding and technical assistance for development projects and programs that enhance more sustainable and shared economic growth efforts that improve living conditions for the poorest, work to preserve the environment and stabilize countries in fragile situations.
Mr. Besigye says the UWA proposal for support is going to be discussed by AFD Headquarters in Paris.
