All roads led to Kabale Municipality on July 20th ,2013 as the Banyakigezi community resident in Kabale,Rukungiri,Kisoro and Kanungu districts showcased their various talents in indigenous knowledge, traditional dance and drama,crafts,costumes and food.
The Kigezi-Kabale carnival under the theme of My Kigezi, My Culture, My Heritage was organised by the International community of Banyakigezi and the Kigezi Tourism Cluster,Kabale Municipal Council and Ekika Community Development Initiative.
The carnival which entailed a procession of groups of people matching according to their clans and brandishing their totem symbols, from Mwanjari along Kabale –Katuna road to the Main stadium, was characterized by tourism exhibitions, demonstrations in iron smelting, crafts making, traditional attire display and various forms of dance.
Uganda minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Mrs Maria Mutagamba was the chief walker and guest of honour.She applauded the Banyakigezi for having taken a lead in forming an active regional tourism cluster that was promoting community and cultural tourism and challenged other regions to emulate their example.
Uganda Wildlife Authority participated in the exhibitions showcasing the attractions in the protected areas which are located in Kigezi region including Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mgahinga Gorilla National park and Kigezi Wildlife Reserve famous for the Tree Climbing lions in Ishasha sector.
