The operationalisation of the new payment system to access our national park and activities therein was successfully piloted in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park(BINP)in September.

The Problem animal management staff from the Community conservation Unit has captured three man-eating crocodiles in Kungu area Apach district near Lake Kyoga which had been disturbing residents for a long time.

The High Court has dismissed Civil Suit NO. 778 OF 2003, Bernard Tumuhimbise VS Attorney General &Uganda Wildlife Authority filed way back in 2003 in the High Court of Kampala by people claiming to have been evicted from Katonga Wildlife Reserve in 200. This was dismissed on a preliminary objection with costs to UWA.

DSC 0361-webA collaring exercise for the herd leaders of elephants ended successfully in Murchison Falls National Park in September. The exercise jointly conducted by UWA and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is aimed at easing the monitoring of elephant movements in the wake of ongoing 3D seismic oil survey.
The collaring will aid UWA and other conservationists to monitor the impact of oil exploration activities on the wildlife using the elephants as flagship species.

In a bid to reinforce protection for the endangered rhinos at the Ziwa Rhino sanctuary in central Uganda, more rangers have been deployed to the area to boost their security.
The rhinos that face a big threat from poachers following the renewed demand and illegal market for rhino horn in Eastern Asia. The rangers who will be permanently deployed have been selected from different protected areas.

With support from the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), the sub counties Karenga and Lobalangit within Kaboong district are carrying out land use planning for the proper use of their land. The two sub counties are neighbors of Kidepo Valley National Park and Karenga Community Wildlife Area. In September, the Land Use planning team which include a representative from planning unit carried out zoning of the land in those sub counties

The planning unit of the Conservation department is in advanced stages of developing new General Management Plans (GMPs)for Kibale and Lake Mburo National Parks.

Uganda Wildlife Authority Deputy Director Conservation and Conservation ambassador Mr. Charles Tumwesigye in September travelled to Montreal Canada to participate in fundraising programs for the Kibale Mobile Clinic Project.
While in Canada, Charles also gave talks on conservation to various audiences in my capacity as the NGS/Buffet Award Winner for African Conservation 2013.

Miss TourismNine finalists for Miss Tourism Uganda in September were treated to memorable adventure when they toured almost all the national parks in Uganda courtesy of Uganda Wildlife Authority and various sponsors including hotels and tour operators.

Uganda Wildlife Authority Executive Director Dr. Andrew Seguya along with a member of the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive of the Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH) Dr. Gladys Kalema were among the experts who attended the Great Apes Summit between September 21-24th,2013 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA to address a variety of issues concerning the conservation of chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans And bonobos.
