Uganda Wildlife Authority led by the planning unit has embarked on the process of preparing a new five -year Strategic plan since the current one expires at the end of this year

According to the acting Chief Conservation Area Manager (CCAM) Mr. Charles Tumwesigye, the process is facilitated by the Planning Unit.

During the last wardens’ assembly held in November 2011, UWA senior staff  kicked off the process by   reviewing  the Vision, Mission Statement and Core Values as well as  SWOT and PEST Analysis of the organization to form the basis for coming up with new Strategic Programs and Key Result Areas where UWA needs to perform.

“ To move the process further, we formed a Planning Team that would use the information provided at the Wardens Assembly, synthesize it, and draft the Strategic Plan that would be reviewed first by the Senior Management, Top Management and finally the Board of Trustees,” says the CCAM. He reveals that a 20 man/woman Planning Team has been formed to include the Planning Unit, departmental representatives, Managers for the seven conservation areas (CAs) senior wardens in charge of selected protected areas as well as Monitoring and Evaluation Unit staff

The Planning Unit has scheduled the first retreat of the Planning Team to embark on the assignment of development of Strategic Programs/Key Result Areas and Strategic Objectives from 18thth – 25thth June 2012 in Fort Portal.

The strategic plan aims at achieving the following overall goal: To effectively and sustainably manage in collaboration with stake holders, wildlife protected areas and wildlife resources in the country as well as promoting conservation led development to ultimately contribute towards local and national development.
