Planning for Kibale, Lake Mburo Parks in progress

The planning unit of the Conservation department is in advanced stages of developing new General Management Plans (GMPs)for Kibale and Lake Mburo National Parks.

In September, the planning and Monitoring and Evaluation Units organised the Kibale National Park GMP Planning team to carry out stakeholder consultations. The resource users, the sub counties, and the districts around the park were consulted. Issues and some solutions were generated for consideration in the new GMP. Key among them were issues of problem animals, limited resource off-take, Illegal activities such as poaching, and inadequate awareness.
The process of developing a new General Management Plan (GMP) for Lake Mburo Conservation Area (LMCA) also continued during the period. The planning and Monitoring and Evaluation Unit staff facilitated Lake Mburo NP staff and stakeholders to develop the programme goals, specific objectives, outputs and activities for the next ten years.
