Uganda's representatives to the 2013 IT Berlin tourism exhibition put up a spirited performance to emerge the fifth best exhibitors in the African category.

Boosted by the famous Ndere Cultural Troupe and armed with a variety of promotional materials, state of art branding items  for the stand,the team arrived earlier on 3rd March and had the first preparatory meeting on 4th February at the Uganda Embassy together with the EAC representatives and Deputy Ambassadors of the EAC.

This meeting put in place strategies for hosting the best ever joint tourism event in the life of EAC, but more importantly put in practice the inspiration ideal of EAC Being a single tourism destination.

According to UWA's marketing manager ,Ms Ingrid Nyonza, the stand was this time is larger than in previous years and offered more meeting space, provided for the bigger meeting room and was designed to reflect the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of Uganda.

The shoe bill stork, the saddle billed stork, the graceful giraffes and mighty elephant images prominently stood out to visitor admiration. The design and art of the stand had been carefully made to bring out the theme for Uganda's participation: Uganda, The Pearl of Africa, Your Eco Tourism Destination.

The Ugandan delegation was led by the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Hon Maria Mutagamba, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Director Tourism, Chairman UWA BOT Mr. Benjamin Otto, Executive Director UTB, BOT Chair for Finance Hon. Janet Okori- moe, Chairman of AUTO, President of UTA, Civil Aviation Authority, Sheraton Kampala and a number of Tour Operators.UWA staff Ingrid Nyonza and Stephen Masaba were also part of the delegation.

During the exhibition, the tour operators swung into a frenzy of action and engaged in busy meetings to scoop business from the German operators and other international potential clients.At the end of the fair,11 contracts had been  signed with Ugandan operators to run joint businesses.

The minister was busy with business engagements, had planned meetings with Minister Dirk Niebel from the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.

She also met with Dr. Spierdel who discussed with the minister the possibility of supporting translocation of giraffes to Lake Mburo. They also discussed the earlier plans with Prof Kamuntu with a technical institution here in German for artificial insemination of Rhinos.

The Minister also held meetings with Julian Fisher, an anthropologist and Explorer, who is spearheading the implementation of the Sir Samuel Baker trail in Murchison Falls Park.

The Minister also officially received the award to UCOTA for its innovative for Pearls of Uganda

Together with the Permanent secretary, the team Uganda met the Principals of Lionheart Advisory Group, who are interested in investing in high end eco lodges within the parks.

The team met a number of local press from various local media houses, interested in visiting Uganda and featuring our parks and products in the local German magazines and TV programs.

The exhibition also received a boost from the Ndere troupe which excited the audience with various Ugandan traditional dances and the famous Pot dance.

On 8th March, Uganda hosted the EAC cocktail with ministers of the EAC member countries, ambassadors, Permanent secretaries, other dignitaries and invited guests on our stand.

Ndere troupe entertained the guests and was a big hit attracting a lot of attention from other exhibitors and everyone took to the Ugandan floor.

Overall UWA'S presence at the exhibition created visibility for Uganda as a leading wildlife tourism destination. The information desk provided all the required information about the parks and products, with wildlife videos being played on the screens, brochures and promotional materials being distributed to tour operator stands and BOT members available to attend the various scheduled meetings.
